Jeannette Johnson

I retired from the Department of Children and Families in December 2012. Shortly after, in December 2012, I relocated from New Haven, CT to Raleigh, NC, to help my brother care for our mother following her Stage 4 lung cancer diagnosis. Sadly, she passed away in December 2015. I later returned to my field, working for a few months in a group home for teenagers until I was hired by Wake County as a Permanency Planning Social Worker in August 2013. The most rewarding part of this role was matching children with loving families who wanted to care for or adopt them. My caseload spanned newborn babies to teenagers, as well as sibling groups. Seeing children successfully placed with relatives or adoptive families was always the best part of the job. I retired from Wake County in February 2022. I am the proud mother of two adult daughters. My oldest daughter still resides in New Haven with my oldest granddaughter (28) and my great grandson (3). My youngest daughter and her family live in Charlotte, where I now have the privilege of caring for my youngest granddaughter (age 1). I am glad to be a part of CAS.
